At DokLab we are passionate about producing documentary films which are devoted to geopolitical, social or cultural topics. We aim to create films that stimulate thought and action, but which also stand the test of time. Meticulous story development and engaging analysis lie at the heart of everything we do. Our goal is to reach an international audience by tapping into universal values. In a rapidly evolving media world, we are attempting to break away from medial confines and existing formats. In our role as independent production company, we place emphasis on flat hierarchies, flexible structures and working in project-led teams. In an ever-competitive environment, we strive for fair business practices.
DokLab was founded in Bern, in 2006, as a limited liability company, by the two filmmakers Urs Schnell and Dodo Hunziker. In 2018, Sonja Kilbertus joined as the third shareholder.
URS SCHNELL used to work as a journalist and filmmaker for the Swiss television corporation, SRF. For over two decades he has been directing documentary films, and in 2016, he served as chairman on the jury for the Bern Film prize. DODO HUNZIKER is a qualified graphic designer and has been working as a director and cameraman since completing his training at the PCFE in Prague.
SONJA KILBERTUS studied at the Film Academy in Vienna and has been working in documentary film production for over a decade. She works as a producer for her production company Evolution Film in Munich, as well as DokLab.
In 2017 both Sonja Kulkarni and Dodo Hunziker took part in the “Documentary Campus Masterschool”. The production team is supported by LEA RINDLISBACHER. As a certified communications planner, she covers marketing, communication and PR, in addition to production and administrative tasks.
